Lindsay Jones, winner of the $1000 adult
scholarship, started showing Arabian Horses at age 8. Her
first horse, "Tasha" can be credited with teaching Lindsay
how to truly ride a horse, with unforgettable lessons that
often left her dusty and frustrated. They may not have made
much of an impact on the Arabian world, but together they
swept local 4h, open, and schooling shows, winning high
point after high point. Tasha retired when Lindsay moved out
of walk trot at age 11 and decided she wanted to become a
reiner. Last year, she earned 3 Youth National Championships
in Reining, Reining Seat Equitation, and Working Cow Horse,
along with one Reserve National Championship in Trail.
Lindsay says that seeing the hard work pay off her senior
year was worth all of the sweat and tears to get there; but
the memories, friendships, and connections she has with the
Arabian Horse world are worth more to her than any of the
trophies or ribbons. She just completed her first year at
Colorado State University in Fort Collins as a Biological
Sciences Major with a Biomedical Sciences Minor. She plans
on graduating from Colorado State and continuing on to vet
school, where she will pursue her dream of becoming a large
animal veterinarian. Lindsay would like to thank Grandpa,
for following her wherever the horse show season takes her,
her parents for their endless support and love, and her
trainers Russ and MaryJane Brown for putting in the had work
to make her the rider that she is today, and for the awesome
graduation present. |

I started riding at the age of four, shortly
after my family moved to Corvallis, Oregon from Boston,
Massachusetts. I started showing in lead line on a small
palomino mare, and have continued showing ever since. While
my family has always owned horses, the first one that was
just mine was Fyre Magek ++//, who I was given as a
fifteenth birthday present. I have been showing her in show
hack, costume and country English pleasure, and absolutely
love her despite her oftentimes ornery attitude. Last year I
won the amateur show hack on her and reserved in the open
costume at Region IV. I also took her to Youth Nationals
last year, at which I won two top tens in show hack (14-17
JTR and JOTR), as well as one in costume (14-17 JTR).
I graduate from Corvallis High School this
year, and am excited to be going to the University of
Oregon, because I will be able to stay close to my horses
and continue to show. I am going to study Architecture next
year at the U of O, and am excited to see where that leads.
I am sure, however, that no matter where life takes me I
will always have a horse. I have made some of the most
amazing friends throughout my experience in the horse world,
and am infinitely thankful to have those people (and horses)
in my life. |
